Air Conditioning

2 different types of air conditioning are available, each designed to manage your climate in different ways. The main features of each are outlined below to assist you in deciding what may suit your needs.

REFRIGERATED AIR CONDITIONING
The principle of refrigerated air conditioning is exactly the same as a refrigeration unit. It is process of transferring heat from one area to another. Thus they are able to provide the option of effective heating as well as cooling.

There are a number of types of refrigerated air conditioiners with different applications.

Room Air conditioners - also known as the window or wall type air conditioners, these are self contained units that protrude outside with a fascia and control panel inside. They are the cheapest form of airconditioner and are effective in operation although they are comparitively unattractive, require a large hole to be cut in the wall and tend to be noisy when compared to other options.

Split type air conditioners - primarily consist of a remote outdoor unit and an indoor unit (the name split is indicates that the units are separeted). A range of types are available such as * Wall mounted * floor console *Underceiling * ceiling cassette

Ducted Refrigerated Systems - may be either a split type ducted system of a self contained package unit which as the name implies are connected to a duct system to distribute the air. They provide unobtrusive, quiet climate control. they can be customized to suit your application.

Refrigerated air conditioning provides true " air - conditioning" . It will ventilate, cool, heat (with reverse cycle systems) and dehumidify. the Allergy Research Foundation recommends refrigerated air conditioning as the most effective way to create a low allergen home.

the power consumption of refrigerated air conditioning depends directly on the size of the equipment. As a rough guide only, approx 10cents of electricity is required for each horsepower each hour.

Buying Tip
Roof insulation is essential with refrigerated air conditioning so consider budgeting for that as well. Correct sizing of the unit is essential to allow cost effective running and efficient cooling. Our Sales staff will calculate the size of the unit you need according to your requirements and the area you wish to cool. Complete system design is important as ductwork, grilles and outlets must be matched for optimum performance.

EVAPORATIVE AIR CONDITIONINGS
Evaportative air conditioning works on the basic principle of water evaporating from a damp surface, offering a reduction in temperature. All evaporative air conditioners work in basically the same way.

The evaporative unit is obvious and not overly attractive. While as much care as possible is given to its location to minimize the visual impact, be prepared to at least catch a glimpse. Domestic units are available in a range of colours to assist the diguise, but units generally measure approx 1m x 1m x 1m.

The effectivelness of the evaporative system is directly dependent on the humidity levels outside. On a hot dry day they will offer maximum performance and comfort levels. A humid day will reduce the performance markedly.

As evaporative coolers uses 100% fresh air the space to be cooled must be vented to the outside, hence the requirement for open doors or windows.

The power consumption of an evaporative cooler is low in comparison with refrigerated air conditioning, typically being around 8 - 18 cents per hour plus water consumption.

Evaporative systems can be either ducted or installed to a plenum. The ducted system consists of cool air being doirected to various areas or rooms via a series of insulated ductes. A ceiling outlet then diffuses the air. In a plenum application, the unit is mounted almost directly to one large plenum or diffuser.

Buying tip
For an evaporative system to work effectively, a high air change rate is required .Our Estimators will correctly size your unit to ensure this is achieved. Correctly sized ductwork is equally important. The duct will be fully insulated and sized on the capacity of air it is required to carry. Outlet and diffuser choice is also important to ensure performance and acceptable noise levels.
